Mr. and Mrs. Rolschau

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s safe to say we’ve officially wrapped up our 2016 wedding season with an intimate & fun wedding. Over the last year, Drysen and I have loved working with and getting to know Jon & Kaity. We started working with them during their engagement session just outside of Brandon SD at the Beaver Creek Nature Area.

Just a final note of content. 🙂

Mr. and Mrs. Stephens

Last year Marisa reached out to us about her October wedding, and once we met with Marisa & Denton in person, we fell in love with this couple. They are laid back, funny, and just plain awesome. During their engagement session at Riverdale & Rotary Park in Sioux Falls, we learned you just can’t help but to be in a good mood around these two lovebirds. Here’s a quick picture from their engagement shoot.

engagement

On October 15th, 2016, My day began with joining the girls at Legacy Salon in Yankton, SD. I loved this place. There was so much space, and an awesome mirror for your make up! All the girls were laughing and having a great time. Afterward the hair appointment, we drove to St. Johns Lutheran Church where the ceremony would take place later that day. The girls rushed off to finish getting ready & dressed before the ceremony. But not before taking some time to relax and get some jumps off the couch!

getready

Marisa had some stunningly beautiful details for her wedding. Which makes sense, because she is a stunningly beautiful bride. A fun fact is that her mom put together a lot of the wedding flower decorations including Marisa’s bouquet. It looked amazing.  Denton also picked out a gorgeous set of rings. His featured a unique texture that really catches your attention and pops! The couple even created their own Monogram which featured their initials wrapped in a set of antlers.

details

Marisa & Denton decided to follow a more traditional wedding route and wait to see each other for the first time at the Alter. I loved the look in Denton’s eyes when he saw Marisa walking up the aisle with her dad. It was emotionally powerful and very very sweet <3

firstlook

ceremony

After the Ceremony,  we took a few pictures of Marisa & Denton with their family at the church. Then, the wedding party headed over to Riverside Park in Yankton. If you know the area, it features a massive walking bridge, (which used to be for cars) and makes pictures look amazing. Not only did the wedding party look great, but they got into their poses and had fun with the photography. As a photographer, I loved working with this group!

wedparty

The newlyweds even had their bow-tie wearing puppy Cash join them for a few photos! After all, no family is complete without the perfect pet 🙂

puppy

He’s so proud of his parents!

We finished up by taking some pictures of the lovely bride and groom. *sigh* They’re so cute together!

We then arrived at The Old Mill for the reception, I instantly fell in love. The building was built in the late 1800s and the couple had decorated the hall with white lights to accent the rooms. For the reception they decorated with flowers, burlap, lace, and with everything else it all came together with a beautiful rustic look. Drysen even re-created their own monogram and projected it with light in the dance hall.

receptiondetails

The reception kicked off with the Bride & Grooms Grand Entrance. Drysen shared a few fun & funny facts about each person in the wedding party. After dinner, the wedding party delivered some amazing and creative speeches, followed by a shoe game, and of course cutting the cake.  One of the coolest features of the reception was the Love Story that Refractor Films had put together for the evening. It was fantastic.

reception

As the dinner began to wind down, it was time to kick off the first dance. The newly weds chose to a song by John Pardi : Head Over Boots. It was upbeat, fun, and really set the mood for the rest of the night. Between the old brick style building, and their Monogram projected on the wall, Marisa & Denton had a beautiful dance.

Once again, Thank you to the happy couple for allowing 3 Cord Weddings to serve you as your DJ & Photographer. You guys are fun, energetic, and will continue to have a special place in our hearts. God bless, and enjoy the married life <3

Mr. and Mrs. Lamp

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Lamp!

Our time with Matthew & Lexi started last year when they met with Drysen to talk about their  wedding on October 8th, 2016. October 8th also happens to be Drysen’s birthday. Even though he was originally reserving October 8th for a camping trip, Drysen enjoyed that initial meeting too much to pass this couple onto a different DJ or Photographer. Plus, we found out that we shared a great mutual friend who would be in the wedding party.

The four of us started to chat and eventually scheduled Matthew & Lexi’s engagement pictures in Matthew’s hometown of Burke SD. Even though traveling to Burke was a little bit of a road trip, it was the perfect setting to capture their love of hunting and fishing. Here’s one of my favorite pictures from their photography engagement session at Burke Lake.

engagement

When October 8th 2016 arrived, the day began with everyone getting dressed in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison SD. Trinity Lutheran has large rooms which provided plenty of space for hair, makeup and relaxing!

getready

I love the purple that they chose for the Bridesmaid dresses. I may be a bit biased because purple is one of my favorite colors. 🙂 Oh and look at her dress…beautiful!! There were gorgeous details and I love the high neck. It looked fantastic on Lexi!

details

After getting ready we started pictures with their First Look on a staircase in the Church.  It was so sweet how thrilled Matthew was when he turned around to see Lexi for the first time that day <3

firstlook

After the first look, the wedding party headed to Lake Herman State Park to grab a few pictures before the Ceremony. There was a wide variety of spots to choose from, and their photos turned out fantastic!

brideandgroom

The wedding party was a lot of fun to work with and definitely kept things entertaining! 🙂

wedparty

I loved Matthew and Lexi’s Ceremony. The service was great and had a lot of personal touches and emotion. The flower girl was super cute and continued standing with the wedding party through the entire wedding ceremony. It was adorable!

ceremony

Over the years we’ve had wedding parties leave their ceremony on limos, stock trailers, semis, and even some tractors. This was the first time we’ve had a wedding party roll up in something as unique and amazing as…. A train! Everyone piled into the train car, and headed to the reception at the Prairie Playhouse in Madison.

The Playhouse was beautifully decorated, with a few Fall details added in. Lexi & Matthew asked Drysen to uplight the entire room with purple uplighting and project a one-of-a-kind monogram that we made just for them. The monogram was a mix of a fishing hook and deer antlers. It popped with the rest of the Lamp’s wedding decorations.  I think Matthew & Lexi loved the way everything turned out when they saw everything for the first time during their Grand Entrance.

During their Grand Entrance Drysen introduced each of the bridesmaids & Groomsmen. He also shared a funny fact about each person, which kept the guests laughing and having a good time. One couple, Ben & Shelby, even broke out in a light saber Star Wars battle while walking to the head table! Even Carl thought it was funny.

recdetails

This was one of my favorite receptions. First of all..they had a Taco Bar! Yummy <3 Matthew & Lexi decided to release the tables to the buffet line by having a scavenger hunt. Drysen would randomly call out objects, and the first table to find that object would win a pass for their table to go the Taco Bar. It was a cute and fun way to keep the night moving along and the guests entertained. Matthew & Lexi even remembered that it was Drysen’s birthday and gave him a birthday cake (which was extremely delicious by the way)!

When it was time to cut their own wedding cake, these newly weds rocked it. I think this may have been one of the best cake cuttings that I’ve seen in a long time because they really got into it and had fun. These two are going to have an incredibly fun marriage.

reception

After the cake cutting, speeches, and a shoe game, it was time to start the dance. Matthew & Lexi asked us to provide a cloud dance during their first dance. Even though the reception looked great with all the lighting, decorations, and cloud dance, the most beautiful sight in the room was the way these two looked at each other.

firstdance

dance

Matthew & Lexi danced their first dance to I Met a Girl by Michael Morgan. Afterwards, Lexi danced with her dad Joel to I loved her first, before Matthew and his mom Brenda danced to Ed Sheeran’s Photograph. As the night went on, everyone continued to dance, laugh, and have a great time. This is one wedding that we won’t forget. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Lamp! We loved working with you guys over the past year <3 Congratulations!

Mr. and Mrs. Rosburg

Alex & Macy Rosburg had an amazing wedding day, and it’s been an honor working with these newlyweds during their engagement. When we first met with (now) Mr. & Mrs. Rosburg, we sat down at a coffee shop in Brookings to discuss the details of their wedding day. As it turns out, the four of us hit things off right away and we really enjoyed getting to know Alex & Macy. After hearing some of their ideas, we had a few ideas of our own on how to help them make their wedding day perfect.

After signing our contract, we set a date for their engagement session. We decided to meet up at Rotary Park in Sioux Falls. Even though there was a little snow on the ground, the four of us were excited to spend some time together taking pictures. Here’s one of my favorites from their engagement session.

An engagement photo of a woman pulling her man in close for a kiss during a winter walk in the snow

Alex & Macy set their wedding date for October 1st, 2016 at Calico Skies Winery in Inwood IA. While Drysen had DJed a few weddings at Calico Skies over the years, this was my first time enjoying the venue as a photographer, and it was amazing! The venue is beautiful surrounded by gorgeous scenery and I really loved the bridal suite that Calico Skies offers. They have a loft with a lot of space for the girls to get ready in. Check out Macy’s gorgeous hairdo, complete with her hairpiece.

Even Carl enjoyed exploring the Calico Skies property.

Oh my goodness these details! Macy did a fantastic job planning out every last piece. I know she was especially excited for the bridesmaids’ dresses which were green and gold. The dresses couldn’t have matched the wedding day colors any better as the grape vines were still green, but just starting to turn to their fall shades. With so many perfect details, everything came together with a romantic feel.

After everyone finished getting dressed, I bought Alex to the vineyard for their first look. Alex was ecstatic as Macy made her entrance. When Alex turned to see his bride for the first time, you could just see the love and excitement in both of their eyes.  I loved getting to hang out with these two lovebirds. They are so happy together and it shows in their photos <3

After the first look, we took a few pictures of the entire wedding party. Everywhere we went, Calico Skies offered fantastic views for the entire wedding party. Once again, the greens & golds of the wedding colors really made these photos pop! I love the wedding party attire and everyone looked great!

Macy & Alex had their ceremony outdoors at Calico skies. Drysen provided music, microphones, & speakers for their ceremony. I thought it was amazing that right as their ceremony began, the sun began to come out from behind the clouds. It was like a small a gift from God blessing them on their wedding day. As the ceremony ended, Alex and Macy spent time thanking each of their wedding guests for coming before signing their marriage license.

As their guests filtered inside the winery for the reception, I took a few minutes to grab some pictures of the details of the reception. It’s worth mentioning that having the reception and ceremony at Calico Skies was very convenient the guests. The reception was filled with details that sparkled, and delicious cupcakes. Macy had asked for the entire room to be lit with green & yellow uplighting. Drysen didn’t disappoint as he pulled out every light in his tool kit to make their dreams become a reality. As the soon as the guests were seated, the reception kicked off with the grand entrance. Next followed the blessing over food before Drysen released tables to the buffet line by doing a scavenger hunt. It was a fantastic way to keep the guests laughing and having a great time while they waited for their turn to get a plate.

After dinner, speeches, some delicious cake, a love story (which I recommend checking out), and a surprise message from a family friend who was unable to attend, it was time for the first dance. Mr. & Mrs. Rosburg asked if we could provide a cloud dance for their first dance, and of course, we were thrilled about it! The cloud dance accented by the uplighting was a great way to set the mood for the rest of the evening.

The rest of the night went smoothly and was so entertaining! Everyone had a blast on the dance floor, and Drysen really kept everyone entertained. As the night died down, the newlyweds had requested a special song for their last dance. As the song was winding down, Alex & Macy’s guests made a big circle around the couple to show their love & support for these two special people. It was an honor getting to know Macy & Alex over the last year, and their wedding will go down as one of our favorites. Thank you so much for allow us to serve you on your wedding day. Your wedding was a blast and we loved getting to know you.

Mr. and Mrs. Radtke

Last year Drysen and I met with Trevor and Lisa to start planning the details of their wedding. Lisa & Trevor are a fun, laid back couple. Honestly, these two are some of the most understanding and nicest people we’ve ever met. As we got to know each other, we set a date for the four of us to meet up at a state park near Brookings for an engagement session. Even though the bugs were terrible (I mean, super bad) these two were just fun to be around. We both loved getting to know Lisa & Trevor during their shoot. This is one of my favorite pictures from their session last year!

img_0108

But my favorite pictures of Lisa and Trevor came from their wedding day. Mr. & Mrs. Radtke tied the knot on September 24th 2016 in Brookings SD. I was thrilled because the leaves had just started to change colors, which is always a photographer’s dream come true. Lisa & Trevor’s day was beautiful, laid back, and basically the best way to celebrate a marriage with friends and family.

Early that morning, the girls met up to prepare for the wedding. Since everyone was getting dressed at the church, things just fell into place. It was a calm, stress-free day for everyone to hang out and prepare for the ceremony. I had a few minutes of free time so I snapped a few photos of the wedding day details. Lisa’s dress was super pretty, and very elegant!

Trevor & Lisa’s first look took place outside of the church. The breeze was blowing, which made Lisa’s Cathedral Veil look super cool as it billowed in the wind.  I just love seeing the look in Lisa & Trevor’s eyes.

After the first look, we went into the church to take a few more group pictures. Lisa and Trevor’s wedding party looked dashing. The bridesmaids wore blue dresses and the groomsmen’s ties matched. Their shade of blue really made everyone and everything pop! Plus, I’m a huge fan of the way Lisa’s flowers matched up to her dress!

After the ceremony, everyone headed to the Swiftel Center in Brookings. As usual, the Swiftel Center provided the perfect atmosphere for a wedding reception. The walls were lined with white pipe & drape and accented with blue up-lighting. Lisa put a lot of attention into the details of the reception and especially the decorations. The entire venue just came together and looked fantastic!

Trevor & Lisa made their grand entrance as Mr. & Mrs. Radtke. The newlyweds gave a few words to thank their wedding guests, followed by dinner, cake, and dancing. To make their first dance even more magical, Drysen provided a cloud dance to dance their first dance as husband and wife.

The rest of the night was full of laughter, dancing, and good times. Drysen even had a little extra ice left over and gave the kids a second cloud dance to enjoy. I think they absolutely loved it!

Mr. and Mrs. Middlen

Congratulations to Nic & Ashley Middlen!

As I’m writing this blog post, I’m finding it almost hard to put into words how sweet, kind, and laid back this couple was. Working with them was extremely fun, and their wedding day was beautiful. Last year, we met with Ashley and Nic to begin planning their wedding. As with all of our weddings, we started by taking a few engagement photos for Nic & Ashley to cherish. Drysen and I really enjoyed getting to know this couple and their family.

img_4587

Ashley & Nic tied the knot on September 10th 2016. The girls began their day by with a hair appointment at Stewarts School & Salon in Sioux Falls. I loved the style Ashley chose for her wedding day. It was long, beautiful, and full of  curls. To top the day off, Ashley’s dress was stunning, and she matched it with shoes filled with sparkles!

After the ladies finished with their hair appointment, Ashley & Nic headed to the Towneplace Suites in Sioux Falls. As everyone finalized their outfits, Ashley & Nic snuck away to see each other for the first time.  Nic had an amazing look of love and excitement on his face when his saw his bride for the first time.

firstlook

Shortly afterwards, the entire wedding party rode a limo bus to Rotary Park for a few pictures. The weather was perfect! After taking a few photos of the couple and the wedding party, everyone loaded on to the bus and headed to the Lakota Event’s Hall in Tea.

weddingparty

Ashley, Nic, and their family really put their time in decorating the Lakota Event’s hall. There were so many decorations, and their hard work paid off. They said their vows on a small stage with up-lighting in the background. During their ceremony, they poured four colors of sand into a unity jar. A color for Nic, Ashley, and their two sons. I thought this was an amazing way to show their bonds of a family on their wedding day!

ceremony

Drysen provided music and microphones for the ceremony. Fun fact, the DJ system is actually hidden behind the back drop of the ceremony. The goal was that after dinner, everyone would take down the head table, and have an open dance floor. It was a great way to save on space, and add some intimacy to the ceremony before partying at the reception!

Another detail that I thought was amazing was the play area that Ashley’s mom made for the kids. It looked just like a castle, with a drawbridge and everything! There were toys and activities inside to keep kids entertained. They also had a s’mores and snack bar, which definitely caught my interest!

reception

Carl was loving the Fall Decorations.

The Lakota Hall has some beautiful Christmas lights strung up in the ceiling, which added to the appeal of the dance floor. It gave Ashley and Nic’s first dance an intimate look as they danced together for the first time as a married couple. 🙂

Mr. and Mrs. Gerovac

Corey and Brittany’s Wedding day featured some of my favorite things: Fall, Marvel, and family.

Mr. & Mrs. Gerovac had their wedding ceremony and reception at Brittany’s parents’ farm, which has been in their family for generations. Drysen and I thought it was so cool that the family has had quite a few family weddings over the years. The couple fit in family traditions and sentimental items throughout the day that really made it special.

Here is a look at their engagement shoot last year at Beaver Creek Nature Area.

engagement

I started out the day following Brittany from her hair appointment in Sioux Falls. After all the girls finished getting their hair done, we headed out to the Farm for the rest of the day.

getready

Everything was so perfect, down to the small details! Brittany had some gorgeous jewelry, and the decorations fit their fall theme so well.

details

Maybe I’m a super nerd, but I died of happiness when I saw all of the Marvel details they included in their wedding! All of the guys even had Marvel shirts underneath their suits. 🙂

The ceremony was on their farm over looking rolling hills and alfalfa fields. Brittany’s Father and her son walked her down the aisle, it was so sweet! Afterwards, the newlyweds followed family tradition by taking a tractor ride down the road.

To top it off, there was even a herd of gorgeous Monarch Butterflies following us around during their couple photos.

After that, we finished up taking some wedding party and family pictures! I just love all the colors they chose for their bridesmaids and groomsmen.

wedparty

It was then time to get the party started! Drysen began the evening with a Grand Entrance for the wedding party and couple. The cake was just beautiful, and smelled amazing. Then came the speeches, which were some of the funniest I have heard in a while. The Matron of Honor gave a speech, followed by a remixed wedding version of “Hot in Herre” by Nelly, complete with a band aid on her cheek!

reception

Meanwhile, I caught Carl checking out the sweet selection of snacks available for guests.

There was something about the First Dance being in front of the family house that made it even more special. The couple had also hired Jillian Artistry to paint their first dance on the spot! It was so cool to watch her paint that throughout the night.

Mr. and Mrs. Lounsbery

Alissa and Jon had an amazing wedding day. Drysen and I have been excited for their wedding since we took their engagement pictures at Sertoma Park last year. We learned that Jon & Alissa loved riding motorcycles, (just like we do) and they had a car project in the works. That definitely caught Drysen’s attention!

img_3095

My day began by joining the girls at Stewarts School and Salon in Sioux Falls. The stylists did a fantastic job on all the girls’ hair!

getready

After the hair appointment, I drove to the Fireside Event Center in Hartford, SD. I was blown away by all of the decorating the couple had done. Everything was put together with a close attention to detail. It was obvious that Alissa has a knack for this.

details

After taking photos of the details, we drove to Jon’s Family Farm for the ceremony. Their wedding ceremony was secluded by trees and was an intimate setting for a perfect outdoor ceremony. Jon & Alissa decided to see each other at the alter, where they’d be married later that day. I loved Jon’s expression as he saw Alissa for the first time.

firstlook

We took photos of the couple, the wedding party, and family portraits before the ceremony began. Jon even brought out their sweet Rat Rod for a few pictures.

The ceremony was perfect and their ring bearer and flower girl were  adorable! It was really neat that Alissa’s Uncle was able to officiate the ceremony. Drysen provided music and microphones for the ceremony, and as Alissa’s uncle introduced the couple as Mr. & Mrs. Lounsbery, they exited the ceremony to “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. The perfect getaway song for these two!

After the ceremony, the newlyweds led the way to the Reception in their Rat Rod. They entered the fireside to guests cheering and applauding during their grand entrance. After dinner, their best man Cody and maid of honor Carissa gave awesome speeches. After cutting the cake, and playing a quick Shoe Game, it was time to start the dance!

Drysen led the night by with the first dance – “Hey Pretty Girl” by Kip Moore. The rest of the evening followed with dancing guests of all ages. I even saw a couple Grandmas with better moves than I could ever attempt!

Mr. and Mrs. Carner

We were excited to be a part of Kelsey and Leonard’s wedding day. Kelsey is actually Drysen’s cousin, and during their last family reunion we were able to take her and Leonard’s engagement photos in Crofton, NE. We got some great pictures while dodging little cousins that wanted to watch the engagement session. 🙂

 IMG_4655

The drive to Lander, WY was a long trip, but it was worth the drive. It almost felt like a mini-vacation. After a 13 hour car ride through the black hills and the vastness of Wyoming, we finally arrived just in time to watch the wedding rehearsal. The wedding ceremony was at the Museum of the American West.  It gave the wedding a rustic country feel – especially with the mountains in the background!

Kelsey had a nice laid back morning when it came to getting ready. I joined them in the hotel room to snap a few photos of her hair. And yes, it was gorgeous! I love the half up, half down hairstyles with curls. I was even able to hang out with Leonard and his guys while they were having a good time before the wedding.

getready

Here a few detail shots from around the venue. I love the sunflower bouquet!

details

Leonard and Kelsey decided to see each other for the first time at the alter. I love that they found a way to say a prayer before the ceremony without seeing each other. It involved a little flexibility and pair of blindfolds, but it was a powerful moment.

beforeceremony

Their wedding ceremony was outdoors. They setup a gorgeous archway with hay bales for decoration. In the distance, you can even see the base of the mountains I mentioned earlier. *drool!*

ceremony

After the ceremony we took a few family and group pictures. These guys were great to work with because they made taking pictures super easy, and even more fun. Even though it was a little on the warm side, we found some good shady spots to keep cool. They were absolute troopers through all the pictures!

weddingparty

Leonard and Kelsey wanted to sneak away to take a few pictures at this really neat place, Sink Canyon. This was where Leonard proposed to Kelsey, so it only made sense to return on their wedding day for some Bride and Groom pictures!

bridegroom

When we arrived back at the Venue, it was time to get the Reception started! I have to take a minute though and talk about how cool their venue was. They held the ceremony and reception at the Museum of the American West. It reminded me of those old 1880 towns, complete with a schoolhouse, chapel, and livery stable (which was where the dance was held).

Back to the the newlyweds! We kicked off the reception with their Grand Entrance, and then ate some delicious food. Leonard & Kelsey welcomed everyone to the wedding reception, and the Maid of Honor Kirsten and best man Dillion gave their speech. Dillon’s speech was extremely powerful. He talked about a hunting trip with Leonard where after unsuccessfully finding any elk, Leonard reminded him that life is about the important things. “God gifted him with a beautiful wife, so God could keep his elk!”  It’s was one of the best wedding speeches I’ve ever heard.

Meanwhile, Carl was enjoying the aroma of these delicious cupcakes!

Afterwards, Drysen started out the night with the first dances.

The rest of the night was awesome! Guests enjoyed dancing inside, while some got to enjoy socializing and playing cards outside in the nice weather. Soon before the dance ended, Kelsey and Leonard had a big exit through a tunnel of guests throwing bird seed at them!

Mr. and Mrs. Earley

Zach and Hanna’s wedding had everything you need for a romantic wedding day. But before I talk too much about the wedding, here is a throwback to their engagement shoot. We met this couple in the middle of winter for a few quick pics around Sioux Falls. I remember it was especially cold during this shot, but these two were troopers! It was great getting to know those two, they are such a fun couple.

Zach and Hanna decided to see each other for the first time at the alter. We decided to knock out a few pictures of the wedding party before the ceremony and then just relaxed and enjoyed the Air Conditioning until the ceremony began. We were able to take the rest of the wedding party pictures after the Ceremony at Rotary Park in Sioux Falls. It was quite the hot and humid day, my lens even fogged up once I stepped outside! Everyone in the wedding party were being good sports, even though i’m sure they were melting just as I was. 🙂
